MISSION
The Queens Tech Council is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, thriving, and self-sustaining tech economy in Queens, New York.
Through our work, and in partnership with our members, we advocate for forward thinking policies, push for increased access to capital for Queens-based startups and entrepreneurs, and work to break down the barriers that separate communities from economic opportunity.
Our goal is to create a community that attracts talent from around the world and supports all of its residents as they build the future.
History
As COVID-19 ravaged New York City in early 2020, the Queens Chamber of Commerce recognized that the crisis was not just a health issue. It was an economic one, too.
New ways of living and working were rapidly accelerating the pace of digital adoption and cementing the role of technology in our current and future economy in a way that was leaving too many behind.
The digital divide had been laid bare. We needed to act as a community to make sure that the benefits of technology and access to opportunities in the rapidly growing tech economy would be available to all regardless of geography or economic status.
The Tech Council was convened to get to work building an ecosystem that supports tech opportunities for all. We want to create the conditions for education, innovation, and the creation of local employment. That means activating the whole workforce, getting capital to all potential founders, improving education from K-12 and up to university students, as well as mid-career professionals, and changing perceptions so people realize that ‘tech’ is accessible to everyone.
