Queens Tech Corner: Mohammed Faisal of Money Hub

It’s Queens Tech Corner time! The Queens Tech Corner is a regular segment on our Queens Chamber social media channels where we shine the spotlight on tech entrepreneurs doing exciting things right here in Queens.

This month’s featured tech entrepreneur is Mohammed Faisal.

Mohammed Faisal is the Founder and CEO of the Money Hub, a company that creates engaging, technology-driven curriculum to teach children financial literacy. To learn more, go to https://www.moneyhubnyc.co/

Can you tell us a little more about your company and how you got your start?

As a child, I learned the power of public schools very early on but also learned how it lacked high-quality financial education. I wanted to be part of the solution to the problem, so I set out to learn the best way to support kids in school. In my senior year at The City College of New York in 2016, I founded the Money Hub with the mission of teaching financial literacy. I received the Colin Powell Fellowship to get started on my startup. Then, I set out to build a team, a curriculum, and partnerships to further our mission.

What connection do you and your team have to Queens?

I immigrated to Astoria in 1998 with my mom from Bangladesh at the age of four. Growing up in New York City really exposed me to many different cultures.

What is your latest project, and why are you excited about it?

My latest project is reviving the Money Hub. We want to create games to make learning financial literacy fun and engaging. I was involved in a car accident that left me battling a Traumatic Brain Injury. I had to take some time off to focus on my recovery process. After getting back on my feet and feeling confident, I took the lessons learned, and the partnerships formed over the last seven years, to transform how financial literacy is approached and applied it to building out a holistic program that incorporates games, group work, and project-based learning.
