Queens Tech Corner: DOMI

This week’s Queens Tech Corner features DOMI, a hot new delivery app conceived and developed right here in Queens!

We spoke with Richard Velez, Co-Founder and Marketing Director for DOMI, to learn more.

Could you tell us a little more about DOMI and how you got your start?

DOMI quite literally started in a living room while brainstorming different business ideas. Us three childhood friends decided to start an ambitious project together and DOMI was one that stuck immediately, given its potential. We spent about a year and a half planning every detail possible and studying the market, seeing where and how it would be viable and began building upon that.

How have you been working to support your local community during these challenging times?

From its inception, DOMI was always about connecting local businesses to already engaged shoppers. The issue is that the population is usually not aware of the large variety of products already existing within their own community. This is where we bridge that gap. Additionally, someone has to deliver the products. This is where our couriers come in. They are the ones in charge of making sure every order gets to its destination on time and in good condition. The issue here is that couriers of other apps in the market were being exploited with low pay for ridiculous distances. We're here to solve that by providing a fair balance where couriers travel a specific distance without sacrificing pay.

Why are you excited about the future of tech in Queens?

If you think about it, a place as diverse in culture and experiences as Queens should already be a hub for entrepreneurship, whether that be in tech or any other industry. Combine that with the relentless work ethic New Yorkers are known for and there's really no stopping us. What's exciting is seeing how entrepreneurs, young and old, use today's new technologies to create opportunities for themselves and those around them.

NYC has always been known as a financial hub, but with the amount of resources, talent, and diversity we have, there's no reason we can't be a leader in tech either
